The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society will host a free tour of the collections of The Bronx County Historical Society and the Bronx County Archives on Wednesday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Librarians will give attendees a guided tour of the various resources available at these repositories. Examples include a high school yearbook collection, an extensive photographic collection of Bronx streets, various Bronx newspapers, and vertical files on notable Bronx personalities. The Bronx County Historical Society also has detailed finding aids on its Social Justice Collections, which include audio-visual; paper and mixed media; oral history; photograph; and newspaper collections on a number of topics, including Black history and culture, Latin and jazz music, social justice struggles, and housing.
Research librarians will also give a presentation on the resources, files, and other archival materials available at these repositories for genealogical research.
The Research Library is located at 3309 Bainbridge Avenue, and the Bronx County Archives is located at 3313 Bainbridge Avenue.
Due to the limited size of the research library, space on the tour is limited and registration is required.
