Several cemetery tours will be offered on Saturday, September 9 in counties across the state.
There will be a tour of the Wiltwyck Cemetery in Kingston (Ulster County) on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. This walking tour will go cover Wiltwyck and general cemetery history as well as highlight a number of colorful characters buried in the cemetery. The tour begin at the mausoleum and will last about an hour. Refreshments will be served. There is no cost but donations toward the tree planting program will be appreciated. Franklin County Historical & Museum Society will host a cemetery walk at Constable Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 9. Learn about the people who lived and died and are buried here. Future tours are planned for Webster Street Cemetery, Morningside Cemetery and Fort Covington Cemetery.

Forest Lawn Cemetery (Erie County) will offer the “Original 80 Acres of Forest Lawn” walking tour at 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 9. Explore the original section of Forest Lawn that was purchased to create the cemetery in 1849 and learn about some of Buffalo’s earliest residents.

Huntington Historical Society (Suffolk County) will offer a tour of the Old Burying Ground Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. The tour begins at the doors of The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building (228 Main Street). From there we’ll explore Huntington’s earliest public burying ground, established soon after the Town’s 1653 founding. You’ll view stunning folk art and beautiful epitaphs while listening to stories of Huntington’s residents and rich history.
