Friends of the Kensico Cemetery in Vallhalla (Westchester County) will offer several free tours of the cemetery in May.
The tours are free, but reservations are required via the RSVP feature on the event page of our website. There will be six tour dates available in May all from 5:30-7 p.m. All tours point out one-of-a-kind mausoleums and statuary that contribute to Kensico’s unique landscape.
Ossipee Tour: Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9
Highlights include a baseball legend and his boss; two inventors; a movie theatre mogul; a World’s Fair mystery; a controversial circus connection, a scandalous scofflaw, a Sentimental Gentleman, a Broadway angel, and one good witch.
Tower Loop Tour: Tuesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 16
Highlights include a subway surprise, a silent film director, two sculptures hidden in plain sight, a Titanic mystery, a Hungarian dessert, a runaway horse, a vehicle that was awarded a Purple Heart, and a tribute to Twinkies.
Tree tours: Thursday, May 23 and Thursday, May 30
On this tour, you will discover the wonders of the species that adorn the grounds and the intertwining of nature and history. Highlights include the battle against invasive species, a 170-year-old oak, and the enigma of “tree knees.”
