Many NY public libraries offer free programs in June

Several New York State public libraries will be offering free genealogy programs in the second half of June.

Week of June 17-22

Yonkers Public Library (Westchester County) will present “Create Your Family Tree” on Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. Get together to talk about your genealogical research. Learn how to access thousands of genealogical records using the Library’s online resources and databases such as Family Search and Ancestry! New York Public Library will present “Researching Vital Records and the Census” on Monday, June 17 at 11 a.m. Discover genealogical resources at the New York Public Library with an exploration of vital records and the census. First, learn how to search for and find your ancestors on birth, marriage, and death certificates. Next, we’ll explore the history of the U.S. Federal Census, explore what other types of census records exist, and offer a variety of search strategies to use in your genealogy research. The Fairport Public Library “Genealogy Club” (Monroe County) will meet on Monday, June 17 at 2 p.m.  Interested to hear about the library’s unique genealogy and local history collections? Join us for this presentation outlining what librarians are working on to continually bring the special collections to life for patrons. No registration required.

Tully Free Library (Onondaga County) will host a “Genealogy Club” on Tuesday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m.  All are welcome regardless of their level of experience. While learning about how to improve your research skills, you can make use of many genealogy resources at the library, including Ancestry.com.

Chili Public Library (Monroe County) will present Ancestry.com Training on Wednesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. To register, go to: https://calendar.libraryweb.org/event/12194183

The Monroe Free Library (Orange County) will a Walk-In Genealogy program on Friday, June 21  from 10 – 11 a.m. Come to the Information desk and ask for Mike. He will spend some time with you to try and help answer your genealogy questions. Sign up not needed but it is recommended that you call first so he can be best prepared to help you. 

Week of June 23 – 29

The Ogden Farmers’ Library (Monroe County) will host a Genealogy Group will meet on Monday, June 24 at 6 p.m. Join us as Larry Naukam shows us why newspapers are invaluable resources in genealogy research and how to use them to uncover vital information about our ancestors. The Glen Cove Public Library (Nassau County) will host a Genealogy Roundtable on Monday, June 24 at 7 p.m. Share strategies and encourage one another on your research journey. The Longwood Public Library (Suffolk County) will have Ask a Genealogist on Tuesday, June 25 at 6 p.m.  Need help researching your family tree? Reserve time for free one-on-one genealogy research help. Appointments are 50 minutes long.  Call (631) 924-6400 Ext. 250 for an appointment. No walk-ins.
