The Oak Hill Cemetery, located in Nyack (Rockland County), will be having an open house on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The open house is free and open to the public.
There will be tours conducted by the Historical Society of the Nyacks highlighting notable figures buried at the cemetery from noon to 2 p.m.
The cemetery was dedicated on June 27, 1848 and 25 headstones pre-date the incorporation. It is the final resting place of the founders of Nyack and includes veterans, scientists and many others. Some of the notable people buried at the cemetery include: actress Helen Hayes and her husband, painter Edward Hopper and author Carson McCullers.
