New York cemeteries to host preservation workshop

Two New York cemeteries will be participating in the 48StateTour gravestone preservation workshops in August.

The two participating cemeteries are: Boxwood Cemetery in Medina on Tuesday, August 6 and Church of St. Andrew Cemetery located on Staten Island on Thursday, August 8.

The workshops are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Learn about gravestone cleaning and safe and effective repair techniques.
A discussion on historic preservation will begin the day and a short walk and talk tour, visually surveying some of the most historic gravestones and monuments in need of repair.

The most common repair techniques will be discussed and performed including resetting a badly leaning or sunken tablet stone and joining broken gravestone fragments using epoxy, clamps, and bracing techniques.
