NY historical association to present program on Civil War

The Historical Association of Lewiston will present a program “The Civil War in Western New York” on Thursday, Oct. 24  at 7 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah Fellowship Hall in Lewiston.

The speaker, Steve Teeft, will review the many ways that New York was involved with this conflict, including manpower, supplies, and leadership. During the conflict, New York was a holder of the most Prisoner of War camps, including the controversial POW camp, Elmira. New York would also be a place for healing and medical care; through the various hospitals, medical training centers and later soldiers’ homes, such as the Soldiers Hospital and Home for Union Veterans in Bath, NY. Learn some interesting facts and stories about the part New York State played in the Civil War.

This community event is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated to help support the museum.
