The Polish Genealogical Society of New York will present “Research Night: DNA Cousins” on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. Many of us have tested DNA on sites like Ancestry, 23andMe, Family Tree, and MyHeritage, and we have hundreds or even thousands of DNA matches. Have you been able to connect with any of your DNA matches to share information about your mutual ancestors? Did you and your DNA match share a common location? The Rochester Genealogical Society will have a DNA Help Session on Wednesday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. It will take place at the Irondequoit Public Library. DNA Help Sessions are designed to assist individuals and/or small groups answer DNA questions and help guide you in utilizing DNA in your research. The Jewish Genealogy Society of New York will present “What We Can Find From Polish Business Court Records” on Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. The business court records, maintained by the Polish State Archive, are the subject of this lecture. The collection includes files of various kinds of enterprises: small one-person companies and limited partnership businesses. Hidden with the files are the owners and their family’s civil (vital) records, prenuptial agreements, wills and other notary documents. The contents of the files provide a taste of economic life between the world wars and allow us to build a richer history of our families. There is a $5 fee for non-members. The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society will present “Reconstructing Manhattan’s Forgotten Syrian Quarter” on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. This is a free hybrid program. During the late 19th century, immigrants from present-day Lebanon, Syria, and historic Palestine began to settle on Manhattan’s Lower West Side. What was once a vibrant community eventually dwindled and has now almost disappeared. Only three buildings in the original neighborhood with ties to what is now known as the Syrian quarter remain today. The Niagara County Genealogical Society will present “Italian Genealogy Begins in Your Home” on Wednesday, May 29 at 7 p.m. Learn how to do practical and proven techniques for Italian family history research. The presenter has experience with locating digital source records from the Italian civil registry going back to 1809. He will discuss both traditional genealogy methods and genetic genealogy to extend the branches of his family tree.
