New York cemetery group to host May cleanup events

Friends of Lakeview Cemeteries in Patchogue (Suffolk County) will be part of the Great Brookhaven Cleanup on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers will be planting flowers around the property and removing invasive plants from Union Cemetery to allow for excavation of` historic headstones that are broken and buried after years of neglect. All ages are welcome.

On Sunday, May 19 the cemeteries’ “Headstones and History” committee and its trained volunteers will clean and repair historic headstones and remove invasive plants among the headstones from 9 a.m. to noon.  Not trained but still want to help? Please join in.

Please note: The Patchogue Hispanic Heritage Parade starts Sunday, May 19  at noon so park in Lakeview Cemetery or on Waverly Avenue.  Fore more information, go to the group’s  Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CRCPatchogue/events
