NY Public Libraries offer many free programs in June

Many New York public libraries will be offering a variety of genealogy programs in the first half of  June.

Week of  May 27 – June 1

The Steele Memorial Library (Chemung County) will present a virtual Genealogy Club on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Join the Steele Memorial Library for an informal get together to talk about search tips and resources available to search your family history. The Lewiston Public Library (Niagara County) will present “Introduction to Genealogy” on Saturday, June 1 at 1 p.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your family history but don’t know where to start. Week of June 2- 8

The Walworth Seeley Public Library (Wayne County) provides genealogy assistance every Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. For more information, go to: https://www.walworthlibrary.org/genealogy-local-history.

The Prendergast Library (Chautauqua County) holds a Genealogy Lab Workshop every Friday from 2-4 p.m.

Yonkers Public Library will offer “Create Your Family Tree” on Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m. Get together to talk about your genealogical research. Learn how to access thousands of genealogical records using the Library’s online resources and databases such as Family Search and Ancestry! The Lee-Whedon Memorial Library (Orleans County) will offer an “Introduction to Genealogy Class” on Wednesday, June 5 at 10 a.m. Are you interested in finding out more about your family history but don’t know where to start. Clifton Park Public Library (Saratoga County) will offer in person Genealogy Assistance on Thursday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to noon and have a genealogy roundtable discussion from noon to 1 p.m. Drop in and ask a question and stay for the roundtable.

South Huntington Public Library (Suffolk County) will offer an in person Genealogy Drop-In on Thursday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. Thinking about tracing your roots but don’t know where to start? Or maybe your search is under way and you’ve hit a dead end. Retired librarian PJ will be on hand to show you how you can access free genealogical resources, including Ancestry, through the library and to offer search tips and advice. No registration necessary.

Aurora Town Public Library (Erie) will present “Getting the Most Out of Ancestry Library Edition” on Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m. Track your ancestors in U.S. census records and discover new family members, migrations, loves, losses, and hardships. Unlock foreign origins using immigration records. Honor your veteran ancestors by discovering their military service using enlistment records, draft records, and pensions. The Chatham Public Library (Columbia County) will host “Chatham Roots” on Thursday, June 6 from 2-5 p.m. This free monthly genealogy club can assist in the search for your family. For beginners, experts and everyone in between. Longwood Public Library (Suffolk County) will offer a Drop-In Genealogy program on Saturday, June 8 from 2-3 p.m.  Are you thinking about tracing your roots but don’t know where to start? Or maybe your search is underway, and you’ve hit a dead end. A local history librarian will be on hand to show you how to access free genealogical resources, including Ancestry, through the library and offer search tips and advice. No registration is required

Week of June 9 – 15

Guilderland Public Library (Albany County) will host a Genealogy Assistance program on Wednesday, June 12 at 5:30 p.m. Professional Genealogist Lisa Dougherty offers one on one family history consultations on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Library. This is a drop-in session; no need to make an appointment.

The Penn Yan Public Library (Yates County) will host a Family Research Support Group on Wednesday, June 12 at 4 p.m. Learn from others and share your own tips and stories from your genealogical journeys in this ongoing, participant-driven program. Hamburg Public Library will present “Jumpstart Your Genealogy” on Thursday, June 13 at 6 p.m.  Jumpstart your genealogy with this introduction to family history research. Many Hamburg examples will be used to teach genealogy concepts, the types of records used, and the genealogy resources available through the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System.
