Green-Wood, Mount Hope cemeteries to offer tours during July

Several New York cemeteries will be offering guided cemetery tours during the month of July.

Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester will be offering a “Revolutionary War” tour on Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m. Learn about the American Revolution told through the lives of veterans buried in Mount Hope.  To register, go to: https://fomh.org/event/patriots-of-the-american-revolution-commemoration-2/

Another tour focuses on women, “Nevertheless She Persisted” on Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. Discover the women who challenged the status quo, broke rules, and shattered norms in the quest for equality, progress, and change. To register, go to: https://fomh.org/event/nevertheless-she-persisted/

In addition, Twilight Tour are offered on Thursdays in July.

Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn offers a variety of tours in July.  Two popular tours are:

Green-Wood’s Greatest Hits – On this walking tour, you will tread where George Washington and his troops fought in the Battle of Brooklyn; learn of the massive fire that struck the Brooklyn Theatre in 1876; pay your respects to the maestro, Leonard Bernstein; and discover much more.

Green-Wood After Hours – Long after Green-Wood’s gates close to the public, explore its historic grounds under the cover of night. Visit the graves of fascinating figures in New York and American history. This walking tour ends with a visit to the Catacombs, which are normally closed to the public.
