Cemetery tour to take place in Bay Shore on Sept. 15

On Sunday, Sept 15,  The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet presents its 4th Cemetery Tour hosted by the Oakwood Cemetery Association from 2-4 p.m.

The tour features Society thespians in period dress bringing cemetery personages “back to life”.  Oakwood Cemetery is full of interesting people and the characters portrayed include a sailing legend, prisoners of war, grave robbers, a cold case killer, an authoritarian preacher/teacher, a Lincoln conspirator, a cartoon voice artist, and a Victorian mourner.

This is a two-hour walking tour.  A limited number of chairs will be available at each tour stop but participants can bring a portable chair. Wear comfortable shoes as there can be uneven ground in the cemetery.

Tickets are available at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oakwood-cemetery-tour-tickets-937314772717 or at Caroline’s Flower Shoppe, 341 Main St, Islip and are $20/person. Rain date will be Sunday, Sept. 22.

If you purchase tickets online, bring your receipt to the tour and you will be given your tour booklet at registration.  If you purchase tickets in person, you will be able to pick up your tour booklet there,
