New York public libraries offer free genealogy programs

Several New York genealogy societies will offer free programs  in the second half of October.

Week of  October 20-26

Fairport Public Library will present “Preserving Family Memories” on Monday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. Learn the essentials of scanning and digitizing your photo collection, including the equipment you will need and best practices for organizing both physical and digital photos. We will also demonstrate the RGS ScanSnap Scanner and share ideas for creating and sharing your newly digitized memories. Join us for this hands-on experience. Participants are encouraged to bring up to five photos to scan for this event.  Registration not required.

Yonkers Public Library (Westchester County) will present “Create Your Family Tree” on Monday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. Get together to talk about your genealogical research. Learn how to access thousands of genealogical records using the Library’s online resources and databases such as HeritageQuest, Family Search and Ancestry! The Onondaga County Public Libraries will present “Organize and Write Your Family History – Part 2” on Friday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. Learn how to bring your ancestors to life on the page. Week of  October 27 – Nov. 2

The Smithtown Public Library Nesconset Branch will present “Italian American Genealogy” on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. Richard Graziano, co-president of the Italian Genealogical Group, will present How Did I Find? a discussion of some basic rules in genealogy and provide advice on discovering your ancestors by uncovering records from both the United States and Italy. The Glen Cove Public Library (Nassau County) will host a Genealogy Roundtable on Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Share strategies and encourage one another on your research journey.
