New York historical societies in Southern Tier of New York

This is a continuing series of New York historical societies that also provide genealogy assistance.

Broome:

Broome County Historical Society – Binghamton – https://www.broomehistory.org/

Newspaper clippings, obituaries and an index of names at Local History Center at the Broome County Public Library.

Research is $10 and hour plus cost of copies.

Chemung:

Booth Library at Chemung County Historical Society – Elmira –  https://chemungvalleymuseum.org/booth-library/

Unofficial records of births, marriage, deaths and burials; maps; business records  and family papers.

On-site research is $5 a day for non-members. There is a research request form needed for distance request.

Schuyler County Historical Society – Montour Falls – https://schuylerhistory.org/research/

Books, cemetery records, census records, family files, subject files, newspapers (partially digitized) and photos. Remote research is $15 for the first hour, and $20 for each additional hour.

$10 in person fee, $20 for email requests, $30 off-site research. Research request form is needed.

Tompkins:

Family genealogy files, obituaries, cemetery listings, death and marriage notices, city directories, and census records.

In person fee is $10 for out of county residents.
