Indiana public library offers free webinars about New York research

The Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center will present two free genealogy webinars about New York research in August.

On Tuesday, August 3, at 2:30 p.m. the library will present “New York State Censuses: You Won’t Believe What’s Hiding in There”.

New York State conducted 10 State censuses between 1825-1925. Some of the questions asked for the State censuses provide details prior to the beginning of civil registrations and decades before a similar question was asked on the Federal censuses. Though a fire in 1911 destroyed some of these records, learn which ones survived and how to locate them.

On Tuesday, August 10, the library will present  “Tracing Your New York Ancestors with the NYG&B”.

President of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, D. Joshua Taylor, will discuss how to use the NYG&B’s online resources, including the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, religious records, online articles and other collection.
