Since its launch in 2014, New York State Historic Newspapers has provided free access to a wide range of newspapers representing New York’s unique history. This now includes 920 titles from all 62 counties comprising over 11.7 million pages of historical content.
There are close to a million visitors to the site every year with millions of pageviews each month. Because of this, a new website is being built that can handle the amount of content and traffic.
Creating a new website will allow users to experience added new features such as:
*New search options including boolean searches, search term “boosting”, and fuzzy searching. These options along with old favorites like searching within X characters, date range limiting, and searching within target counties have the potential to uncover new, exciting results.
*A free account registration will allow you to view searches you’ve made in the past and the pages you’ve recently accessed.
*Find that perfect page for your research? You can save that result to a Private List and take notes on that page. Never lose that great page again!
More information will be announced in the coming months to explain how the new features will work.
