New York historical societies to present programs on cemeteries

Two New York historical associations will be presenting programs on local cemeteries this week.

The Clarksville Historical Society will present a program on the Albany Rural Cemetery on Wednesday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Clarksville Community Church. The presenter, Mark Bodnar, is the president of the Albany Rural Cemetery.  He will discuss the history of the cemetery and give a pictorial virtual tour of many prominent people buried there, including President Chester A. Arthur.

The program is free and open to the public.

The Croton Friends of History will present a program on “Bethel Cemetery and Croton’s Lost Cemeteries” on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Croton Free Library. Learn about the history of the Bethel Cemetery, Croton’s Lost Quaker Burying Ground and the Van Cortlandt family cemetery.
