Western New York libraries to offer genealogy programs in July

Several public libraries in Western New York will present genealogy classes in July.

There will be a genealogy workshop hybrid program at the Walworth-Seely Public Library every Wednesday in July from 3-4 p.m. From 2:00 – 3:00 pm, individual assistance in researching is available.  This includes getting started with your family tree, finding out what resources are available and/or scanning and uploading images.

The Palmyra Community Library will present Genealogy and Ancestry Help, in person, on Tuesdays in July.

The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library will present author Vicky Johnson-Dahl who will talk about her new book “Buffalo in 50 Maps” on Saturday, July 8  at 2 p.m. Learn what maps & cartography can teach us about the history of Buffalo. Librarians from the Grosvenor Room will also be on hand to present some maps in the Library’s collection that may help you conduct your own local history and genealogy research.

The library will also present “County Supervisors’ Proceedings” on Wednesday, July 12, at 2 p.m. County supervisors’ proceedings are not your average government reports. Tucked amongst their pages are hard to find details about our ancestors’ lives. Learn how to use these documents and what they may reveal.

In addition, there will be a tour of the Central Library’s Special Collections Department on Saturday. July 22 from 3-4 p.m.  Learn about the history of the Central Library and get in inside look at our Local History, Genealogy, Map and Rare Book collections, as well as the Mark Twain Room and other exhibits.

The Geneva Public Library will present a genealogy research roundtable on Saturday, July 15 at 10 a.m. Get together with others who are interested in family history research. Other attendees and a library staff member can help you with your research. Just starting out? Attendees will be glad to show you tools you need to being your journey.

The library will also be offering a tour to Cornell Libraries and their rich treasure of genealogy resources on Thursday, July 13. Register for directions and tour information.
