Explore Buffalo is offering several cemetery tours in August.
There will be a walking tour of Holy Cross Cemetery on Sunday, August 13 at 10 a.m. Irish immigrants and their descendants helped transform Buffalo the city from a village to a booming metropolis. Hear their stories and see the beautiful carved monuments that mark their final resting places while strolling through historic Holy Cross Cemetery.
The cost is $18 for general admission and $8 for students.

There will be two walking tours of Concordia Cemetery on Sunday, August 13 and Saturday, August 26, both at 10 a.m. Concordia Cemetery was founded in 1859 and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Western New York. After being abandoned in 2001, the cemetery is now maintained by a group of volunteers. This walking tour will share the history of the cemetery and the stories of some of the unique individuals and families buried there, including Lura Bennett, Glenn Brooks, Johnetta Cole, John McHugh, Sgt. William Moeller, and Rosa Lumpkin.

Explore Buffalo and the Jewish Buffalo History Center will present a tour of the Jewish cemeteries along Pine Ridge Road on Monday, August 21, 2023.
This tour will tell the story of Jewish immigrants coming to Buffalo. While there are countless stories to be shared in each cemetery, a few have been selected to highlight individuals whose monuments can be found in these cemeteries.
As the 90-minute tour progresses through the cemeteries, some of the symbolism and design features found within the cemeteries will be discussed – both on individual monuments, as well as of the cemeteries themselves.
