The Lewiston Public Library (Niagara County) will have an in-person genealogy meeting on Monday, August 14 at 1 p.m. The topic will be “What languages were spoken in your family?”

The Steele Memorial Library (Chemung County) be offering an in person programs on “Introduction to Online Newspapers” on Thursday, August 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the PC Lab. Learn all about finding and accessing newspapers online and learn how newspaper articles can help fill out your family tree.

The Monroe Free Library (Orange County) will have a Walk-In Genealogy Program on Friday, August 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. One of the reference librarians will be available to spend time with patrons and try to help answer your genealogy questions. Sign up is not needed but calling first will help the librarians prepare for your visit.

The Onondaga County Public Library will present “From Aachen to Zwingenberg: Finding Your German Ancestors” on Friday, August 18 at 10 a.m. Did you know that German wasn’t a unified country until 1871? Since there is no centralized archive for genealogical records, you need to try and locate what region they lived in before they immigrated. Learn some of the resource available in Germany and at the Onondaga County Public Libraries to help you uncover their origins.
